Key differences

What actually sets them apart

  1. System of record versus portfolio tracker

Carta is where a company issues and administers equity, so it is the legal record of the cap table. Raziel tracks positions and keeps a cap table view, but it does not issue securities or provide 409A valuations.

  2. Which holdings you can see

On Carta, an investor’s portfolio fills in from securities issued through Carta. Raziel lets you add any startup, SPV or fund, whether the company uses Carta, another provider or a spreadsheet.

  3. Fundraising workflow for founders

Carta covers SAFE issuance, wire requests and update engagement tracking. Raziel adds a Kanban fundraising pipeline with target checks next to investor updates and the cap table.

  4. Pricing

Carta Launch is free for startups under 25 stakeholders and $1M raised, with paid plans after that. Raziel’s Founder plan is free through 100 contacts, then $29/month, and the Investor plan is $49/month through 30 companies.

To be fair

Where Carta is strong

No tool is right for everyone. These are the areas where Carta does more than Raziel today.

  • Carta is a full equity administration platform: share and option issuance, financings, 409A valuations and compliance forms that Raziel does not offer.
  • For companies on Carta, shareholders see their securities without any data entry.
  • Fund administration for venture firms, including investment dashboards across funds.
  • Independent SOC 1 and SOC 2 Type 2 reports today, where Raziel’s SOC 2 Type II is in progress.

Switching

Moving from Carta to Raziel

Most of the setup is importing what you already have. The Investor plan starts with a 14-day free trial.

  1. Keep Carta as your company’s system of record if you use it to issue equity. Raziel works alongside it.
  2. Add the positions you hold, including companies that are not on Carta, or import them from a spreadsheet.
  3. Forward SAFEs, closing documents and fund statements so Raziel’s AI records the terms.
  4. Founders: move your investor pipeline into Raziel’s Kanban board and send updates from the same workspace.

Raziel vs Carta: questions

Does Raziel replace Carta?

Not for equity administration. If your company issues shares and options or needs 409A valuations, Carta does that and Raziel does not. Raziel is for tracking your investments across every company and for running fundraising and investor updates.

Can I track investments in companies that do not use Carta?

In Raziel, yes. You can add any startup, SPV or fund, import a spreadsheet, or forward documents. Carta’s individual portfolio is built around securities issued through Carta.

Is Carta free?

Carta Launch is free for startups with under 25 stakeholders and less than $1M raised. After that, or when you need a 409A, you move to a paid plan. Raziel’s Founder plan is free through your first 100 contacts.

Do both have mobile apps?

Yes. Carta has iOS and Android apps for equity holders, and Raziel is live on the App Store and Google Play for investors and founders.
