Unfunded Commitment Tracker: Remaining Capacity Across Funds

An unfunded commitment tracker is the remaining-capacity ledger you keep across funds, not a how-to for funding a capital call. One row per LP interest: commitment, paid-in, remaining unfunded, recallable add-backs. Raziel's capital call tracking guide is the wire and the notice. This page is the sheet those remaining balances sit on.

This is not legal, tax, or investment advice. Raziel does not provide it. Copy figures from the ILPA glossary, the Reporting Template, and the notice you hold. Do not invent a remaining balance.

What remaining unfunded is

ILPA's Private Equity Glossary: unfunded commitment is money that has been committed to an investment but not yet transferred to the General Partner. Paid-in capital is the amount of committed capital a limited partner has actually transferred to a venture fund, also known as the cumulative takedown amount. Contributions are the total capital that a Limited Partner paid into the fund. Committed capital is the total dollar amount of capital pledged to a private equity fund. Remaining capacity is that unfunded figure after recallable add-backs. It is not commitment minus every wire.

ILPA's Reporting Template v. 2.0 Suggested Guidance (January 2025) keeps a Commitment Reconciliation on the Capital Account Statement: values that walk beginning unfunded commitment to ending unfunded commitment. Copy ending unfunded from that walk, or from the notice's LP Unfunded Commitment section when you have it. Do not treat the PCAP NAV roll as this ledger.

One row per LP interest

Open one row per limited partner interest, per vehicle. Do not collapse two funds that share a GP brand. Do not overwrite commitment when a call lands. The notice that moves cash is logged on Raziel's capital call tracking guide. This grid holds remaining obligation after that notice posts.

  • Commitment. The signed pledged amount from the subscription documents, in the currency the GP reports. ILPA: committed capital is the total dollar amount of capital pledged to a private equity fund. Do not overwrite it when a call lands.

  • Paid-in. Cumulative capital actually transferred. ILPA: paid-in capital is committed capital a limited partner has actually transferred, the cumulative takedown amount. Contributions are the total capital an LP paid into the fund. ILPA's Capital Call and Distribution Template guidance treats a return of excess capital called as a negative contribution: it decreases total paid-in and increases unfunded. It is not a distribution unless the GP renames the type and footnotes the formulas.

  • Remaining unfunded. Ending unfunded after the last posted notice and the last statement walk. Do not compute it as commitment minus paid-in if recallable capital is still live. ILPA: Unfunded Commitment and Call/Distribution amounts on the Reporting Template should be consistent with the fund's other financial reporting, including audited and unaudited financial statements and PCAPs, where applicable. If the row disagrees with the statement, fix the row. Do not invent a plug.

  • Recallable add-backs. ILPA's glossary: recallable is the total amount of distributions that may be recalled by the fund at a future date. On the Reporting Template walk, plus recallable distributions increase ending unfunded. On the CC&D template, a recallable distribution is still a distribution, with a corresponding increase to unfunded. Note it in the transaction description. This column is remaining capacity coming back, not the distribution event.

Walk beginning unfunded to ending unfunded

ILPA's January 2025 Suggested Guidance: the Capital Account Statement walks the movement from beginning unfunded commitment to ending unfunded commitment to showcase the Commitment Reconciliation. ILPA's March 2025 QRSI webcast prints Table A.2 as total commitment, beginning unfunded commitment, less contributions, plus recallable distributions, less expired or released commitments, plus or minus other unfunded adjustment, ending unfunded commitment. Copy those signed lines onto the row. If this period's ending unfunded does not equal last ending unfunded plus this period's adjustments, the row is not done.

The same walk now sits on call and distribution notices. ILPA's September 2025 Capital Call and Distribution Template guidance adds a standalone LP Unfunded Commitment section, aligned with the updated Reporting Template, to capture the impact of the notice's transactions on remaining unfunded commitment. The LP Unfunded Commitment Reconciliation is identical to Table A.2. Impact on Unfunded Commitment is a required field on the transaction table. ILPA is explicit that the field is not the same as Inside Fund or Outside Fund. A call for management fees may occur inside the Fund and still sit outside commitment. Do not subtract every call from remaining unfunded.

ILPA removed standalone Recallable Distribution and Inside/Outside Commitment transaction types. Those facts are inferred from impact to LP unfunded. Timing, from the same CC&D guidance: the updated template replaces the 2011 template on a go-forward basis and should first be delivered in Q1 2027. Until that packet arrives, copy the beginning and ending unfunded the GP already prints.

When the ledger holds

The tracker holds if each LP interest stays a row, paid-in and remaining unfunded stay separate from the wire log, and recallable add-backs have a signed column. It fails when two vehicles share a brand and one row, when paid-in ignores a negative contribution, when a fee call inside the Fund is treated as a draw on commitment, or when recallable add-backs never return to remaining capacity.

A workbook can hold the four columns. It still fails if remaining unfunded is a snapshot with no walk. Raziel's alternative-asset dashboard is the investment record those remaining balances should sit on: cash dates, documents, IRR and MOIC, AI ingest of the pack, capital calls, wallets and bank linking. Raziel does not issue capital calls and does not give investment advice. Copy the four columns. Leave the LPA math to the statement and the notice.
